  • Whoa. Blow your mind stats even if some are pre-election fever (and thus probably a lot lower than they are now.) For example:

    Google search stats:
1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) – approximate number of unique URLs in Google’s index (source)

2,000,000,000 (two billion) – very rough number of Google searches daily (source)

    YouTube stats
70,000,000 – number of total videos on YouTube (March 2008)

200,000 – number of video publishers on YouTube (March 2008)

    Blogosphere stats
133,000,000 – number of blogs indexed by Technorati since 2002

346,000,000 – number of people globally who read blogs (comScore March 2008)

  • This is how I learned about the US Airways crash too. (Except for being in NYC)…
"Today was yet another indicator that Twitter is the way we're going to consume breaking news in the future. I learned about the U.S. Airways Hudson River plane crash before it was on CNN.com, NYTimes.com, and FoxNews.com.

First there was an earthquake over the summer. Then the downed jet fighter in San Diego. Today, Twitter was the source I first saw reporting the US Airways flight that crash-landed into the Hudson River between New York City and New Jersey.

Twitter represents the power of people to communicate events in an instant. Silicon Alley Insider's Dan Frommer was the first I saw to report news of the crash. I quickly checked all the major news sites and saw no coverage. Since I live in the NYC metro area, I ran into my living room and turned on the TV. News channel WNBC 4 in NYC was just interrupting local programming to report news of the crash."

  • Make it easy to find video then clip, customize, mash and embed. MSNBC is smart on this one…
"MSNBC.com, the news Web site of NBC, is adding a feature Friday to its online video player to make it easier to find specific passages of videos and allow users to paste selected clips on other sites, like blogs."
